SAE

SAE

The standard SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
A global standards development. An international society of over 83,000 engineers from 97 countries, which exchange know-how in the fields of automotive engineering, aerospace, engines, commercial vehicles, production, fuels and materials.

Batteries: Specifies that the battery at a temperature of –18°C will deliver a current equal to the Cold Cranking Amps for 30 seconds with the voltage staying above 7.2 volts (or 3.6 volts for a 6 volt battery).

Power Connectors/Adapters: The SAE connector is a physically self-mating connector (both male and female connections on each terminal). This connector is typically used for applying a maintenance charge to a battery. The polarity of the connector, when installed in a vehicle and attached to a battery, is always such that no short circuit will occur if the exposed terminal were to touch the chassis.

Lubricants/Oils: SAE establishes standards for motor oil viscosity, which helps determine how thick the oil is.

Self-Discharge

Self-Discharge

Gradual loss of electrical energy when a battery is stored

Sipes (Siping)

Sipes (Siping)

Tyre sipes are thin slits across the surface of a tyre to improve traction, normally giving traction benefits in snowy, wet or icy conditions. Siping can also help with heat dissipation on hotter surfaces

SKU

SKU

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) in inventory management is a method of identifying a unique product and assigning stock levels to that product. Also referred to as ItemCode, Product Code, or Product ID.

The SKU ranges used by Bickers often follow patterns to easily identify and group its category/range of products, for example SKUs beginning with "27#####" are tyres. In some cases this translates right down to the individual sizes available.

SLA

SLA

SLA (Sealed Lead Acid ) battery. Will not require any acid handling, initial preparation or maintenance.

State-of-Charge

State-of-Charge

The amount of electrical energy contained in a battery

Sulfation

Sulfation

Also spelled 'Sulphation'. Sulfation is the formation of lead sulphate on a battery's plates as a result of discharge (or being deprived of a full charge).
